I read Medicine at Cambridge University where I also obtained a Masters degree in Experimental Psychology. I completed my clinical training at Guys Hospital and then went on to obtain my MRCP at Northwick Park before returning to my main interest of psychiatry. I worked in South East London, including the Maudsley Hospital and the National Unit for Affective Disorders, where I was a lecturer in Biological Psychiatry. I have been a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Brighton area since 1996 and was the first academic appointment in psychiatry at the post-graduate medical school. As Discipline Lead in Psychiatry at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, I led the development of the psychiatry teaching curriculum at the newly formed medical school. I now work part time at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in the Assertive Outreach team and at The Priory Hospital Brighton and Hove where I am also Medical Director. My research interests are in Bipolar Affective Disorder and adherence to treatment.
The Montefiore Hospital is only able to provide Covid-19 tests to patients undergoing surgery at our hospital. Covid-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service.

I am a father to two teenage children and enjoy spending as much time as possible with them before they leave the nest. I enjoy spending time outside, especially mountain biking around the South Downs with a group of similarly middle-aged men.
