Mr Jan Luigi Marciniak

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Washington Hospital, providing specialist care for patients across Sunderland, Washington and the wider Northeast. I specialise in hip and knee replacement surgery, with a particular interest in complex and revision joint replacements.

I grew up in Middlesbrough and studied Medicine at the University of Sheffield, where I was awarded a pre-clinical distinction prize and graduated with Honours in 2006. I completed my higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery on the Yorkshire Training Programme before undertaking two highly regarded sub-specialty fellowships at the internationally recognised Charnley Hip and Knee Unit in Wrightington and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. These experiences enabled me to develop advanced expertise in both hip and knee surgery.

I was appointed Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust in 2018 and combine this role with my private practice at Spire Washington Hospital.

My practice includes hip replacement surgery, knee replacement surgery, and keyhole knee arthroscopy, as well as joint pain treatments such as joint injections. I also offer minimally invasive (small scar), day case hip and knee replacement surgery, helping to support a faster recovery wherever possible.
