Mr Roland Hettige

I am a fully trained Ear, Nose and Throat consultant surgeon. I specialise in Rhinology which encompasses Rhinoplasty (functional due to nasal blockage and purely cosmetic), blocked and runny noses, nasal allergy, sinus problems and polyps, loss of smell, sinus headaches, chronic ear aches, snoring and sleep apnoea. I am also fully trained in general ENT and Children and Young Person's ENT conditions.

I have acquired key specialist surgical skills through extensive operative experience, including performing over 250 rhinoplasties using both external and closed (scarless) approaches, covering functional and cosmetic cases, as well as primary and revision procedures, often involving grafting and reconstruction with donor rib cartilage (Tutoplast). I have also carried out more than 750 sinus procedures, managing advanced polyps and undertaking extended operations, including frontal sinus surgery and balloon dilations. In addition, I have completed over 400 nasal airway septal straightening procedures, encompassing both primary and revision cases. My experience further includes more than 750 tonsil and adenoid procedures in both adult and paediatric patients, utilising modern techniques such as coblation, and performing tonsillotomy and tonsillectomy for conditions including recurrent tonsillitis and obstructive sleep apnoea.

I have spent the last 10 years gaining super-specialist expertise in advanced nasal and sinus surgery both in London and Oxford. When I took up my current consultant post at Wexham Park Hospital I became the lead surgeon responsible for the Rhinology Service. I routinely accept referrals from other colleagues to perform difficult and revision surgery and my unique skills and experience now attract referrals throughout Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and the London boroughs.

I am on the Clinical Effectiveness and Audit Committee (CEAC) for the local NHS Trust. I am also on the executive panel for SFOUK (Student and Foundation Otolaryngology UK), a National Body designed at promoting ENT as a career and educating junior doctors and medical students, and also on the executive committee of the electronic data-management system of the trust.

In addition to my clinical work, I was proud to be part of the faculty of this years hugely successful European Rhinological Conference in London. I am on the Executive Committee for Electronic Database Management System at Wexham Park.

I am a keen footballer and tennis player and although surgery is my passion, I still make time to enjoy the simple pleasures in life such as baking and spending time with my young family.
