"Spire Southampton has excellent facilities and staff. I thoroughly enjoy working here in an environment where all are committed to the best patient care."
Interventional radiology is an evolving specialty that's often called ‘minimally invasive' or 'pinhole' surgery. It allows the treatment of a huge range of medical conditions through small incisions using imaging guidance. This kind of surgery reduces the impact on patients' lives and allows a faster return to normal activity.
My primary passion is interventional oncology and my specialist expertise is in innovative liver directed treatment for primary or metastatic liver cancer. Together with my oncology, anaesthetic and surgical colleagues I am part of the worlds largest chemosaturation programme for liver metastases.
I play a key role in the chemoembolization (TACE - delivering beads with chemotherapy into liver arteries) and radioembolisation services (SIRT - delivering particles with radiation into liver arteries) for which i received a license in 2016.
I perform other liver interventions such as percutaneous cholangiography (PTC), with drainage and stenting as well as transhepatic porto systemic shunt (TIPPS) insertion for patients with bleeding varices (varicose veins) or intractable ascites (abnormal fluid in the abdomen).
I am involved in gynaecological and urological embolisation. This involves uterine artery embolisation (UAE) for uterine fibroids (benign tumours that develop in the wall of the uterus), prostate artery embolisation (PAE) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (benign enlargement of the prostate) and varicocele embolisation for varicoceles (enlarged veins in the scrotum).
I completed my undergraduate training at St Georges' - University of London in 2007 where I obtained an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Immunology as well as my medical degree. Following specialist clinical and interventional radiology training in the West Midlands, UK, I undertook a fellowship in interventional radiology/oncology at the renowned McGill University, Montreal, Canada. I was appointed at University Hospital Southampton in 2015 and have been a Consultant Interventional Radiologist for three years.
