I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in hip surgery, hip revision surgery, knee surgery, sports injury, sports medicine and osteoarthritis. I perform minimally invasive hip surgery, utilising a new approach, (direct superior approach). This approach spares all the muscles that are essential for normal gait, which means that the rehabilitation can be faster and the chances of developing abnormal gait (trendelenburg gait) are significantly reduced. This in conjunction with a small scar, improves satisfaction, speeds up return to baseline activity and reduces the length of stay in the hospital.

To date, I have performed more than 200 primary hip replacements using the approach described above with excellent results in terms of patient-reported satisfaction.

Discover the next generation of hip and knee surgery with Mako. I now offer robotic-arm assisted joint replacements at Spire Little Aston Hospital.

I graduated from Leicester, Warwick Medical School, in 2004 with merit and completed my orthopaedic training in West Midlands, on the Warwick Orthopaedic Training Programme. I completed further advanced training at Oxford, a centre of excellence in orthopaedic research. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in trauma and orthopaedics in February 2013 and obtained my GMC certification of completion of training (CCT) in September 2014.

During my training I developed an interest in hip pain in all age groups. I manage hip pain both surgically and non-surgically, aiming to preserve the natural joint wherever possible.

In my clinical practice, I perform complex revisions of old hip replacements for various reasons (infection, failure, fractures) which are referred to my team by my colleagues locally as well as regionally.

I have been appointed as the Associate Clinical Director for Heart of England NHS Trust, now University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. In my role, I am developing new pathways and policies that aim to make the department more modern, and efficient so that it can provide an excellent standard of care for the local population.
