I qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 1990 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995. I undertook a period of research examining blood coagulation in aortic aneurysm repair for which I was awarded a higher degree (MD) by the University of Edinburgh.I trained in vascular and endovascular surgery in Edinburgh, Leicester and Adelaide, South Australia. I was appointed Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in Birmingham in 2004.I practise exclusively as a vascular and endovascular surgeon and offer the full range of treatment options (medical management, minimally-invasive therapies and open surgery) for patients with venous and arterial disease. I have a specialist interest in the management of lower limb venous disease (including varicose veins and leg ulceration) and aortic disease. I established the Birmingham Complex Endovascular Aortic Service and act as a European mentor for the minimally-invasive management of complex aortic aneurysms. I have a busy clinical practice in both of these sub-specialties and have published extensively on these topics in peer-reviewed medical journals.My consultant colleague, Martin Claridge and I provide specialist vascular and endovascular services in the private sector as Premier Vascular.
Special Clinical Interests:
The medical, surgical and minimally invasive management of venous and arterial disease.
The treatments I provide include;
varicose vein and leg ulceration treatment with minimally-invasive approaches, including radiofrequency ablation and ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy.
Aortic aneurysm treatment with minimally-invasive endovascular surgery and open surgery.
Lower limb arterial disease with minimally-invasive angioplasty and stenting and open surgery.
