I have been a consultant in adult gastroenterology for 15 years specialising in adult clinical nutrition, intestinal failure and complex inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease. I am an expert in clinical nutrition and the administration of parenteral nutrition. I am clinical lead for Adult Nutrition at the University Hospitals of Leicester. I have extensive experience in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, in particular complex Crohns disease.
My primary expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of all bowel disease, in particular inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), nutrition and intestinal failure. I undertake both upper and lower GI endoscopy.
I am currently Head of Service for Gastroenterology and Clinical Lead for Adult Nutrition at the University Hospitals of Leicester. I sit on a number of national committees. These include the Patient Safety Committee of the the Royal College of Physicians; Clinical Standards and Services Committee, and Small Bowel and Nutrition Committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology.
I am a Clinical Teacher and lecture regularly on nutrition on the undergraduate medical course at Leicester Medical School. Nationally I am a Clinical Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians of London.
I was previously clinical advisor to the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) and wrote national reports on Emergency Medicine, Acute Kidney Injury and Parenteral Nutrition.
