Mrs Lauren Bell

I am a consultant neuro speech and language therapist working within the field of neurorehabilitation. I have 10 years experience providing specialist neuro SLT input to patients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties resulting from neurological impairment.

I have experience of working with patients with a range of neurological conditions, including acquired and traumatic brain injury, stroke and cerebral palsy. I work closely with patients and their families to identify clinical need and set person-centred goals.

I have experience diagnosing and managing a range of communication disorders, including aphasia, dysarthria and cognitive communication disorder (CCD).

I have a keen interest in the management of dysphagia and have experience of undertaking both bedside and instrumental assessment to make clinical recommendations in relation to treatment and management. I have an active role in the joint running of the videofluoroscopy clinic at Spire Leeds Hospital alongside Judith Scholefield (Consultant SLT), in which we provide comprehensive assessment of the anatomy and physiology of a patients’ swallow.

As part of my role, I am a trained neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) practitioner, with experience of using a range of dysphagia rehabilitation methods as part of person-centred treatment plans.

By incorporating my clinical experience and expertise into assessment and treatment, I am able to offer continued high standards of care.
