Upon completion of my UK orthopaedic training, I undertook one year of specialist surgical fellowship training at Sportsmed SA, Australia, before taking up my consultant post. I worked as a consultant knee and hip arthroscopic surgeon at North Tees University Hospital for 7 years, where I was instrumental in developing a sports injury service.
Besides knee replacements, I deal with complex knee injuries in young adults. I have weekly acute knee injury clinics at the NHS and at Spire Leeds to ensure prompt and optimum treatment for these often missed injuries.
I have a special interest in meniscal preservation surgery in young adults and have regularly presented my results at various meetings. I have extensive experience in hip arthoscopic surgery, to deal with selected groin pain conditions and trochanteric bursitis.
I am an executive member of the British Knee Society and have been involved in developing referral guidelines for knee arthroscopic surgery. I am also currently chairing a steering group which is working on national guidelines for ACL injuries.
I am a Royal College of Surgeons’ trainer for arthroscopy skills and regularly conduct workshops for orthopaedic trainees. I am a founder member of ISKSAA, a society which trains surgeons in India on latest surgical techniques. I am also part of the steering group for MCh course in orthopaedics at Teesside University and help organise its teaching programme.
I am editor-in-chief of the Journal of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (www.sciencedirect.com/jajs).
