Specialises in
I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Leeds.
I graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School and completed my orthopaedic training in Yorkshire. During the last three years of my training the emphasis was on foot and ankle surgery learning from eminent foot and ankle surgeons both in Yorkshire and the West Midlands.
I undertook a clinical foot and ankle fellowship at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. Whilst there I worked for Mr J Plewes and Mr M Herron and gained extensive experience in simple and complex hindfoot and forefoot surgery. Also under their expert tutelage I learned how to perform arthroscopic ankle procedures including arthroscopic ankle fusion.
My practice consists of the entire spectrum of foot and ankle surgery. I have a particular interest in ankle arthroscopy and the arthroscopic management of ankle problems. In addition to this I routinely undertake bunion and lesser toe surgery, I also treat arthritis of the ankle, hindfoot and forefoot.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Ray Monkhouse at Spire include:
