I graduated from Cambridge University before completing my medical training at St Mary's Hospital in London. My initial surgical training was in London before undertaking full time research with Lord Darzi, attaining a Master Degree in Surgical Education and Assessment. I continued my surgical training in the Oxford region before completing a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery (keyhole surgery) in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

I am married to Victoria who is a local general practitioner and we have three daughters who keep us both busy. I am a keen mountain biker and enjoy skiing and sailing.
