Alison - breast lump surgery
Alison had breast lump and lymph node surgery at Spire Hartswood Hospital under the care of consultant breast and general surgeon, Mr A.K. Salih.
I found my lump myself on New Years Eve, and as I had not yet had a mammogram (I was 50 but had not been called) I contacted my GP straight away. My GP referred me through the NHS system but rather than wait I decided to contact Spire Hartswood as it is my local hospital. I had to have a referral from my GP but that only took a couple of days to organise and I was given an appointment with Mr Salih. On the evening of the appointment I had a mammogram, an ultrasound and a biopsy all within an hour. That same appointment Mr Salih looked at the results and decided I would need surgery to remove the lump and possibly 4 lymph nodes too. This surgery was subsequently booked for the following week. Mr Salih has a lovely calm nature, and that together with full explanation of my procedure put me completely at ease. My treatment at Spire Hartswood Hopsital could not have been better - from the nurses looking after me to the anaesthetist & physiotherapist who dealt with me. Mr Salih’s nurse, Jane Stimpson, was also wonderful. She even took my calls on her days off to help with any questions or problems that I had. My aftercare has been exceptional and I am sure has contributed to my swift recovery.
