Professional profile

Dr Sameer Zar completed his postgraduate training in General Medicine & Gastroenterology in the South West Thames Scheme and trained at various hospitals including Kings Liver Unit, Mayday and St Helier University Hospitals. He was awarded a PhD by the University of London for his research work at St.George's Hospital Medical School, London. He researched the role of food hypersensitivity in Irritable Bowel Syndrome and its effect on gastrointestinal motility. He has published several articles in leading international journals.

He is currently working as a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at Epsom and St Helier University Hospital. He is the Endoscopy Lead as well as Upper GI Cancer Lead for the Trust. He also runs a GI physiology laboratory and Hepatitis service at St Helier Hospital. He is expert in all forms of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP. He has special interest and expertise in managing dyspepsia and reflux disease, IBS, colitis, gastrointestinal motor disorders, gastrointestinal cancers and pancreatobiliary and liver diseases. He also has particular interest in managing food hypersensitivity induced IBS, fatty liver disease and non-endocrine obesity.
