Kumaran Thiruppathy is a fully qualified, consultant colorectal and general surgeon treating patient with conditions relating to the colon and general surgery.
Mr Thiruppathy graduated from The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London in 2002 and then completed his basic surgical training on the North and East Hertfordshire NHS trust in 2006. Prior to entering the surgical registrar training, he undertook research towards a higher degree under the tutelage of Professor A Emmanuel at University College Hospital. Here he gained his expertise in pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence and severe obstetric perineal trauma.
His specialist colorectal and general surgery training was on the North East London General Surgery Registrar training rotation 2014. He furthered his colorectal specialist training by undertaking two fellowships.
In 2013 he received a scholarship to be a Fellow at Florida South Hospitals under the tutelage of Mr M Albert. The unit has a national and international reputation for innovative minimal access colorectal surgery. During this fellowship he learn to perform trans-anal microsurgery and was involved in developing TAMIS–TME. His familiarity with the TAMIS port has led to him writing a book chapter on this technique.
In 2014 he undertook a Colorectal fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide, Australia, under the tutelage of the world renowned Professor Peter Hewitt. Here he gained experience in advanced laparoscopic colorectal resections, complex multi-visceral resections for the treatment of advanced colorectal cancers and usual cancers. During his time on this fellowship he was able to develop and consolidate his interest in pelvic floor dysfunction.
