I started training in rheumatology as a part of my general medical training at The Royal London Hospital and Newham General Hospital between 1987 and 1989. I was then appointed as Senior Registrar in rheumatology in Cardiff from 1989 to 1995. During this time I obtained a clinical fellowship for two years research into experimental treatments for inflammatory arthritis.
My training background includes diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, sports related injuries and soft tissue rheumatism. My main special interest is in paediatric rheumatology with responsibility for the Cardiff and Vale and Pontypridd and Rhondda NHS Trusts as well as taking referrals from the whole of South Wales.
