Professor Hashim Hashim

Consultant Urological Surgeon

MBBS MRCS (Eng) MD FEBU FRCS (Urol)

I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Professor of Urology, and I serve as Director of the world-renowned Urodynamics Unit at the Bristol Urological Institute, based at Southmead Hospital. I graduated from St Bartholomew's and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry and completed my urology training in the South-West of England. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Fellow of the European Board of Urology.

In my private practice, I offer a national and international personalised service for people living with urinary incontinence, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), benign prostate disease (BPH), overactive bladder (OAB), nocturia, urinary tract infections (UTIs), prostatitis, bladder stones, pelvic organ prolapse, and bladder pain syndrome. I also specialise in the management of mesh complications, and I see many patients who have had previous surgery elsewhere that has not gone as planned.

I am fellowship trained in female and functional urology, neuro-urology, pelvic reconstruction and urodynamics. The treatments I provide include anti-incontinence procedures such as autologous fascial sling, colposuspension, urethral bulking agents, artificial urinary sphincter insertion, and male sling surgery. I also offer botulinum toxin (Botox) injections into the bladder, sacral neuromodulation, transvaginal mesh removal, prolapse repair, fistula repair, and urethral diverticulum excision. For men with prostate problems, I perform Aquablation, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), Thulium vaporesection of the prostate (ThuVARP), Rezum, and Urolift. My general urology services include cystoscopy, ureteroscopy, transurethral resection of bladder tumour, circumcision, vasectomy, hydrocele repair, epididymal cyst removal, suprapubic catheter insertion, urethral dilation including Optilume, and optical urethrotomy.

I have authored eight books, 60 book chapters, and over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals. I am an Associate Editor for Neurourology and Urodynamics and BJUI Compass journals, and I sit on several committees including the Male LUTS guidelines panel for the European Association of Urology (EAU), the International Consultation on Incontinence (ICI) on Urodynamics, and was recently appointed the British Association of Urology (BAUS) International Fellowship lead. I am regularly invited to speak and teach at national and international meetings.

Above all, I aim to provide a straightforward, compassionate, and expert service for every patient who comes to see me, whether you are based in the UK or travelling from abroad. My goal is to help you understand your condition clearly and feel confident in the treatment plan we decide together.
