Mr Ian Winson
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MB ChB, FRCS
Specialises in
I am one of the senior orthopaedic surgeons in the UK. I have had a special interest in the problems of the foot and ankle for most of my consultant career.
I have extensive experience of treating all the disorders affecting the structure of the foot and ankle from trauma through complex deformity to arthritis and the effects of diabetes.
I have treated patients who have been top class rugby players, footballers and cricketers.
I am perhaps best known for my work on arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques for the treatment of foot and ankle disorders designed to limit the risks of surgery. I have extensively taught other surgeons these techniques.
I have been President of the British Foot and Ankle Society, of the European Foot and Ankle Society and most recently President of the British Orthopaedic Association.
My research interests are based largely in the area of the practice of foot and ankle care and include research on the function of the foot and ankle through to the outcome of complex foot and ankle surgery.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Ian Winson at Spire include:
