My main interest is coronary artery bypass surgery, which represents over 75 percent of my workload. The vast majority of this work is done 'off-pump', a technique that I helped to develop in Bristol. I have a special interest in cardiac surgery, radiofrequency ablation for atrial fibrillation, off-pump/beating heart coronary artery bypass surgery and aortic valve surgery.
I have a particular interest in mitral valve repair, having acquired up-to-date techniques in internationally renowned centres such as Broussais (Paris), St Vincent's (Sydney), Mestre (Italy) and Papworth (UK).
I thoroughly enjoy my work and there is little time outside to dedicate to other activities. I do however enjoy a gruelling couple of hours on the tennis courts (summer and winter), and I am a Department of Transport qualified costal skipper, working towards the Yachtmaster Certificate.
