I have been a Consultant Cardiologist and Consultant Physician since 1994 and I am particularly interested in the diagnosis and treatment of fainting, blackouts and dizzy spells. I have also expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of viral and bacterial infections of the heart and interested in the diagnosis and treatment of palpitations (cardiac arrhythmias). I have extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac muscle diseases (cardiomyopathy). Further I have an interest in the diagnosis of endocrine causes of disease of the cardiovascular system particularly those as a consequence of thyroid and adrenal gland disorders. Also I have extensive experience in the management of diagnosis and pharmacological treatment of heart attacks and angina.
I perform radial(arm) and femoral (leg)coronary angiography; right heart (including lungs) cardiac catheterisation and I perform permanent pacemaker implants and removal of pacing systems including pacemaker generator changes. I also perform cardiac loop recorder implants, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography and carry out orthostatic tilt table tests.
My medical undergraduate training was in Dublin, Ireland. My medical postgraduate training in Cardiology was in Liverpool and Kings College Hospital, London. I was a medical officer in HM Forces ( Major, RAMC) for 5 years.
