Spire Yale Hospital secures good outcome from Healthcare Inspectorate Wales quality check

17 January 2022

  • Quality check finds the hospital to be safe, effective and well-led
  • High levels of patient satisfaction, with praise for kind and caring staff

Spire Yale Hospital has received a good outcome from an inspection by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW), which found many examples of excellent practice at the hospital.

Inspectors visited the hospital in late September and their quality check focused on three key areas: the quality of patient experience, whether the care provided was safe and effective, and the quality of leadership. As part of their inspection, they spoke to patients about their experiences in the hospital.

In their report, just published, HiW concluded that the hospital provided safe and effective care for patients. They found the environment to be welcoming and commented on the cleanliness and tidiness of the hospital.

The vast majority of patients who spoke to the inspectors expressed satisfaction with the care and treatment they had received, and praised staff for being kind and caring. Most patients said they felt involved as much as they wanted to be in decisions made about their care. Inspectors also highlighted that there were a number of Welsh speakers among the staff, which was important for patients whose first language is Welsh.

HiW also found good management and leadership within the hospital, with staff commenting positively on the support that they received from the management team.

Spire Yale Hospital has 18 private en-suite rooms, an ambulatory suite and two operating theatres. It offers surgery, diagnostic services and physiotherapy. During the peaks of the pandemic, it made its services available to Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and provided treatment and diagnosis for over 650 NHS patients.

Sue Jones, Hospital Director at Spire Yale, said: “I am very pleased that Healthcare Inspectorate Wales has concluded that our hospital provides safe, high quality care to patients and that patients gave such positive feedback to inspectors during their visit. These findings reflect the dedication of our staff who have worked so hard in such challenging circumstances over the past two years.

“We look forward to continuing to serve our local community in the months to come as we help address waiting lists that have built up as a result of the pandemic.”
