Spire Washington Hospital’s Healthy Heart Clinic offers patients in the Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle regions a comprehensive risk assessment and effective management for all cardiovascular risk factors.
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of premature deaths worldwide. With the launch of the Healthy Heart Clinic at Spire Washington Hospital we aim to provide personalised strategies for patients to reduce the risk of developing heart disease.
What to expect
When a patient books in to the Healthy Heart Clinic they are asked to complete a questionnaire which they bring to the first appointment with the cardiologist. The information is discussed at length to help develop a full patient history to allow the cardiologist to use a risk calculator.
A number of tests are carried out that are key to evaluating someone’s risk factor. These include:
Each patient is given an ECG which is a test that records the heart’s electrical activity and identifies if there are any issues with the heart’s natural rhythm.
Once all this information is collated the cardiologist is able to place the patient into a low, medium or high-risk group. Everyone who attends the Healthy Heart Clinic is given information on how to improve their lifestyle, however those deemed medium and high-risk are offered a CT scan to help us ascertain how developed the problem is and what treatment may be needed. Follow up appointments are arranged according to each individuals needs and ongoing care discussed with the patients GP.
Cost
The cost of the Healthy Heart Clinic is £500 and this includes consultation and lifestyle check, blood tests, BMI, blood pressure and an ECG.
Patients can also have CT Calcium scoring which detects calcium deposits in the arteries of the heart, which is a marker for coronary heart disease, alongside the existing tests for £750
