Professional profile

I have been a consultant rheumatologist for thirty two years and have broad experience in the diagnosis of all musculo-skeletal rheumatic conditions (of which there are 240). My priority as a specialist is to ensure an accurate diagnosis so that I can provide patients with accurate information about their condition and potential treatments available. I have extensive experience in the provision of soft tissue and joint corticosteroid injections for the relief of pain and inflammation and have a particular interest in patient education.

The investigation and management of the vast majority of rheumatic conditions listed earlier in this profile I can provide within the Spire Washington Hospital, but there are certain conditions where research and the British Society for Rheumatology indicates can be better managed within an NHS Rheumatology Multi-Disciplinary Team. Such conditions include rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, vasculitis and more serious connective tissue diseases and once diagnosis is made and initial treatment commenced I would recommend to both patients and to their general practitioners that their care is transferred to their local NHS Rheumatology Department.

Over the thirty two years of consultant experience I have performed a vast number of soft tissue and joint injections for the relief of pain and inflammation. Some injections are best given under ultrasound control, but others can be injected in the out-patient clinic.
