I am a Professor of Neurology at University of Birmingham and Consultant Neurologist at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust. I am the academic lead for headache and intracranial pressure and am the leading authority on headache and intracranial pressure having written numerous scientific papers on these topics from both a clinical and research perspective.

My work and knowledge are recognised world wide and this is exemplified in the numerous invitations I have received to deliver keynote lectures and presentations at medical conferences internationally.

My clinical career, as a consultant neurologist since 2012, has focussed on headache, migraine, cluster headache, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, low pressure headaches, facial pain, trigeminal neuralgia and concussion (traumatic brain injury and post traumatic headaches).

I have a wealth experience in headache care. Particularly migraine therapies including injectable treatments for headache such as botulinum toxin, new migraine CGRP therapies and nerve blocks.

I initially trained as a doctor and graduated from the University of Birmingham, School of Medicine, UK in 2000 with honours. I went on to study internal medicine (achieving my MRCP qualification in 2003) and then underwent specialist training in neurology in the UK (I was awarded my certificate of completion of specialist training in 2012). I undertook a PhD at University of Birmingham and then a clinical Fellowship focussing headache clinical practice. Subsequently, I worked as a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Lecturer in Neurology and then a NIHR funded Clinician Scientist & Neurology Consultant. I have linked my clinical career to research at the University of Birmingham where I am a Professor of Neurology and lead to the Translational Brain Science Research group.

I am currently the deputy chair for the British Association for the Study of Headache, UK and a member on the research committee for the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. I was previously an elected member of the International Headache Society Board and European Headache Federation Board.
