Mr Mirza is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, treating patients at Royal Worcestershire Hospital and Alexandra Hospital, Redditch. He is also the Acute Eye Services Lead for the Kidderminster Treatment Centre. He has fellowships from Birmingham & Wolverhampton in medical retinal diseases as well as ocular inflammatory problems. When he was appointed Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre, he led a team of fellows, specialty doctors, trainees, specialist nurses in evaluating & treating complex medical retina problems. Mr Mirza is an expert in diagnosing & delivering new treatments for Age Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Vein Occlusions and other macular conditions.
He is experienced in Phacoemulsification cataract surgery and routinely deals with complex cases. He has also trained several doctors to perform cataract surgery. Mr Mirza takes active part in lecturing medical students, junior doctors, optometrists and his GP colleagues. He has organised regional symposia, grand rounds and lectures. He has been involved in several research trials for Age Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy and is one of the Principal Investigators for the COMRADE trial comparing the safety and efficacy of intravitreal Lucentis® versus intravitreal Ozurdex® implant in Retinal Vein Occlusions.
