Miss Joanna Skillman
BM BCh(Oxon) BA(Hons) MA(Cantab) MRCS(Eng) FRCS(Plast)
I provide a kind, female perspective for patients considering plastic surgery and I am a highly motivated, conscientious, approachable and capable surgeon. I have been an NHS consultant since July 2010 and was appointed as an aesthetic surgery fellow and gained experience in all aspects of cosmetic surgery including breast surgery, facial and eyelid surgery and body contouring procedures including abdominoplasties and liposuction. I am a fully accredited specialist in plastic surgery.
I grew up in Cheltenham, studied medicine at Cambridge University, and was awarded an intercalated Master of Arts degree. I graduated in clinical studies at Oxford University with the BM BCh degree. I was also awarded the Radcliffe Prize for all round excellence. I undertook broad and varied surgical training in Oxford, London, Durham, Birmingham and Sydney. An exceptional specialist fellowship allowed me to further enhance my skills in breast cancer surgery and reconstruction, at the principle teaching hospital in Sydney.
I achieved fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery in 2009. I was one of the very few plastic surgeons to be awarded a sought after oncoplastic fellowship, which provided training in modern aspects of breast cancer surgery and new techniques in reconstruction.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Miss Joanna Skillman at Spire include:
COVID-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service at Spire South Bank Hospital.
Quality improvement in breast surgery, Aesthetic surgery, Microsurgical DIEP breast reconstruction, Patient reported outcomes of surgery.
I enjoy bringing intuition and appreciation of aesthetics to my work in plastic surgery. I listen to my patient's hopes, fears and expectations and with careful attention to detail provides the right care for their needs.
Outside work I relax by walking my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel in the Malvern Hills and creating clothes and gifts for friends and family. I'm married to an anaesthetist and my time is amply filled by two school aged daughters and an infant son.
