I have been a Consultant Neurologist since 2003, providing specialist neurological assessment and care for patients across Birmingham, Worcester, Worcestershire and the surrounding regions. I have broad experience in general neurology, gained through specialist training in Birmingham and at the internationally renowned National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London.
My clinical interests include the assessment and management of concussion, epilepsy, headaches, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke, and spinal problems, alongside a wide range of neuromuscular conditions. These include disorders of the peripheral nerves (peripheral neuropathy), muscle diseases (myopathy), and disorders of the neuromuscular junction such as myasthenia gravis, as well as the diagnosis and management of genetic and metabolic disorders of the nervous system and ion channel disorders, including myotonia and periodic paralysis.
My NHS practice in Hereford allows me to remain closely involved with the diagnosis and management of the more common neurological disorders, while the remainder of my role in Birmingham focuses on specialist clinics for nerve, muscle, and rare neurological diseases, providing highly specialised care for complex conditions.
Birmingham has a long‑established reputation as a centre of excellence for metabolic medicine, and I run combined neurometabolic clinics with other specialist physicians experienced in the care of patients with inherited and acquired metabolic neurological disorders. This multidisciplinary approach ensures coordinated, expert care for patients with complex and rare conditions.
I undertook four years of specialist research under the auspices of University College London (UCL) and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. During this time, I established a genetic diagnostic service for skeletal muscle ion channel disorders, including myotonia, paramyotonia, and periodic paralysis.
These disorders are often amenable to treatment, and my research also evaluated therapeutic medications, giving me extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of treatable neuromuscular conditions, which continues to inform my clinical practice.
As a Consultant Neurologist serving Worcester and Birmingham, I offer access to both comprehensive general neurology and highly specialised expertise in neuromuscular, metabolic, and rare neurological disorders. My approach is centred on accurate diagnosis, clear explanation, and evidence‑based treatment, ensuring patients feel informed, supported, and confident in their care.
