Bill, aged 82, from Lower Withington, underwent two separate hip replacement operations at Spire Regency Hospital seven years apart. He describes the excellent standards and care he received.

"I had a new hip in my left side at Spire Regency seven years ago, and back then they advised that at some point I would need the other side replaced too.

"The pain began in the right side around a year before the operation - simply put down to wear and tear as they had predicted.

"It was causing me lots of pain and discomfort - I had to be careful where I was walking, and it caused me lots of trouble at night trying to sleep. This is what bothered me the most, as I'd try and turn over in the night and it would wake me up.

"Things were delayed for a time because I had to have a procedure on a heart valve, but when the time came for the second hip operation I had no hesitation in returning to Spire Regency. I was looking forward to going back and getting it sorted - and had no qualms at all about undergoing another operation because I felt in very safe hands. I even had the same surgeon - Mr Keith Barnes - which was very reassuring as I trusted his medical expertise.

"Everyone at Spire Regency is very professional and friendly and I've had no grumbles after the operation. The ladies in the physiotherapy team are also a huge help and support in getting you back on your feet.

"I can get about much more easily now and sleep on my side again rather than my back which is much better - it means I'm not tired all the time like I was before when I was struggling to sleep. I am very pleased with the results of the operation at Spire Regency - it's made a real difference to my quality of life."
