Mrs Gemma Whitehead

Speech Therapist

BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy

I am a registered Speech and Language Therapist and qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Manchester in 2007. Since 2009, I have held Specialist Speech and Language Therapist posts within the NHS, where I continue to work alongside running a clinic by appointment at Spire Regency Hospital, Macclesfield.

I have developed specialist experience in assessing and treating voice disorders, as well as supporting people with degenerative conditions and stroke that affect voice, speech, communication and swallowing. I understand how these difficulties can impact everyday life, confidence and wellbeing, and I aim to provide supportive, personalised care tailored to each individual’s needs.

My specialist interest is in voice therapy and voice disorders. I work with patients experiencing changes to their voice, communication or swallowing, helping them better understand their condition and supporting them through treatment and rehabilitation.

I have completed additional specialist training in several recognised approaches, including Lee Silverman Voice Training (LSVT), Understanding and Managing Psychogenic Voice Disorders and CBT, Accent Method, and Estill Voice Training. These approaches support the treatment of a range of voice and communication difficulties.

In line with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists Clinical Guidelines, patients attending for voice therapy are required to have a recent ENT examination and report before treatment begins.

I believe in creating a calm and supportive environment where patients feel listened to and involved in their care. I take time to explain assessments and treatment options clearly, helping patients feel informed and reassured throughout their therapy journey.
