Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Stuart Russell at Spire include:
Blood pressure monitoring, implantable defibrillator implantation, cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT), CRT optimisation, pre-operative assessment for non-cardiac surgery, heart failure management.
I am a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in heart failure and device therapy. I have worked as a consultant at Macclesfield District Hospital for 2 years. I completed my higher specialist training in the North West Deanery with sub-specialist training in heart failure including cardiac transplantation. I have completed a higher research degree (MD) studying the best method of pacing the heart after surgery including publications in major European clinical journals.
I have a specialist interest in the management of heart failure and device therapy. This includes the implantation of complex pacing devices (cardiac resyncronisation therapy- CRT) for the management of advanced heart failure and implanting cardiac defibrillators. I hold the British Heart Rhythm Society certificate for device management. I also perform diagnostic coronary angiography for the management of coronary artery disease (angina).
I have implanted >250 complex pacing devices including cardiac resynchronisation devices and implantable cardiac defibrillators, >500 pacemakers and >1,000 diagnostic coronary angiograms.

Pacing the heart after cardiac surgery including temporary biventricular pacing. Optimisation of pacemaker timing cycles including cardiac resynchronisation therapy. Heart rate control in patients with heart failure.
I have written a series of research papers investigating methods of pacing the heart after cardiac surgery as part of my higher research degree (MD). The main publication from my thesis: Optimized temporary biventricular pacing improves haemodynamic function after on pump cardiac surgery in patients with severe left ventricular systolic dysfunction: a 2 centre randomized control trial . Russell et al European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery 2012.
