Dr Asimina Gaglia

I am an experienced Gastroenterologist, having worked in the NHS as a Consultant since 2016 with a special interest in endoscopy.

I have completed over 4,000 colonoscopies and 6,000 gastroscopies. I perform endoscopic mucosal resection of colonic polyps, dilatation of oesophageal strictures, Barrett's and atrophic gastritis surveillance, inflammatory bowel disease surveillance colonoscopy, bowel cancer screening colonoscopy.

I have a special interest in endoscopy including gastroscopy, colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy, both diagnostic and therapeutic (polypectomy, dilation) including Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopy. I also manage gastroeosophageal reflux and motility disorders of the oseophagus and stomach, functional gastrointestinal disorders including irritable bowel syndrome, chronic diarrhoea and constipation and also inflammatory bowel disease.

Despite my special interest in endoscopy, throughout my career, I have been treating patients with a wide variety of gastrointestinal problems both as outpatients and inpatients.

I graduated from the University of Patras in Greece in 1999 and I completed my training in gastroenterology both in Greece and in the UK.

I have been working as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in Stockport NHS Foundation Trust since 2019 where I am also the Lead of the Endoscopy Unit. Previously, I was a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool Hospital where I also completed my fellowships in inflammatory bowel disease and advanced endoscopy. I am an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist for the Manchester Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.
