Professional profile

My interest is in primary and revision arthroplasty of the hip and knee.

As a result of increased patient demand and expectation, the field of lower limb arthroplasty is ever changing. I am committed to a patient-centred approach to orthopaedic surgery. I believe that patients should be fully involved in the decision making process.

Nowadays, more and more young patients fulfill the criteria for joint replacement and I have a particular interest in this area. In addition, I have further interests in soft-tissue reconstruction of the knee, knee arthroscopy and the management of orthopaedic trauma: I have sub-specialist experience in this field at consultant level.

I graduated from Birmingham and completed my specialist orthopaedic training in Oxford. Having worked with some of the foremost authorities in this field in the UK, I undertook a fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty and reconstruction in Sydney, Australia during 2004 with Warwick Bruce, an internationally renowned arthroplasty surgeon.

This gave me considerable experience in newer techniques and implants in the field of joint replacement and was combined with practical exposure to clinical and basic science research in this area.

Personal Profile

I was born in Hampshire and have now returned together with my wife and two young children.

Whilst my family occupy the majority of my time, I also have a wide variety of interests including most sports (particularly football, cricket, rugby and golf), DIY, literature and music. I am involved in the development of the STEP programme for the education of trainee surgeons. I believe surgeons have a duty to provide the highest quality of care at all times; in this context surgeons' own continuing professional development is closely linked with that of trainees.
