Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral holds first event showcasing robotic surgery
07 May 2025
Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Wirral has held its first patient event to showcase a new robotic surgery, hosted by Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Muthu Ganapathi.
Mr Ganapathi demonstrated how the ROSA robot assists in knee surgeries, leading to more precise procedures and faster recovery times.
Attendees described the event as "extremely useful" and "superb."
Former patient Peter Fairclough attended the event to share the positive impact the surgery has had on his life.
He had both knees operated on within four months and was just five weeks post-op when he attended the event.
Mr Fairclough said: "Immediate post-op was incredible, on both knees there was a use of crutches only for two days, I wasn’t aware before my surgery of the impact the robot had on recovery time.
"Before seeing the demonstration today I wasn’t aware that the robot doesn’t actually do the surgery, it more so assists the surgeon."
Peter also spoke about his experience at Spire Murrayfield Hospital.
He said: "I actually found the experience enjoyable and that is a really strange thing to say for having a knee operation, so I can not only compliment Mr Ganapathi and the robotics, I’m of course thankful for all the physio work that was done pre and post, but I'm also incredibly thankful to the team here at Spire at Murrayfield who are genuinely kind and genuinely expert in what they do."
