I am a Consultant Spine Surgeon specialising in the assessment and surgical treatment of a wide range of spinal conditions affecting both the neck and back. My practice includes the management of common and complex spinal problems such as lower back and neck pain, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, osteoporotic spinal fractures and conditions affecting the sacro‑iliac joint and coccyx.

I provide both non‑surgical and surgical treatment options, ensuring patients receive the most appropriate care for their individual condition. My surgical expertise includes lumbar and cervical decompression procedures, microdiscectomy, spinal fusion techniques, minimally invasive spine surgery and advanced correction for spinal deformities such as scoliosis and kyphosis. I also undertake procedures such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty for spinal fractures, as well as diagnostic spinal injections to support accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

I graduated in Medicine and Surgery in Italy before completing my specialist training in orthopaedics and trauma in Greece, where I developed a strong interest in spinal surgery. I subsequently undertook advanced spinal fellowships and research training in the United States at the University of Utah, gaining extensive experience in complex spinal surgery across the full length of the spine. My work in adult spinal deformity has been widely published and internationally recognised, including receiving the Russell Hibbs Award from the Scoliosis Research Society.

I am currently a Consultant Spine Surgeon at the Royal University Hospital, Liverpool, where I continue to deliver specialist spinal care and contribute to research and education.

Additional information

I was born in 1975 on the tiny, but beautiful Greek island of Alonnissos in the Aegean Sea. I am married to Sofia and have a young family of two daughters, Zoe (six) and Marianna (one), who was born in Salt Lake City shortly before we arrived in Liverpool. My wife Sofia has studied economics and is a graduate from Thessaloniki University but currently is working full-time making sure our daughters grow up well and happy.

Moving to Liverpool has brought both professional and personal happiness. I am a passionate football fan, who follows AEK, Athens, although I regularly visit Anfield to watch Liverpool FC and look forward to AEK and Liverpool meeting in the Champions League at some point in the future. Since arriving in Liverpool we have been made to feel that we are part of a vibrant city; with such great culture and history. It is very clear that Liverpool is a special city, a truly global city representing many different cultures and a city whose people have made us, as a family, feel welcome and valued. I want to contribute to the this city’s vision and future by being at the forefront of the Spinal service of Merseyside, providing first class service for a first class city.
