Virtual consultations:
I am a consultant upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon with more than 30 years of experience helping patients with conditions affecting the stomach, oesophagus and digestive system. I see people with a wide range of concerns, from acid reflux, heartburn and swallowing difficulties to gallstones, hernias and weight-related health issues.
Many of the patients I meet have been living with symptoms for years and are looking for answers about why they are feeling unwell and what can be done to help. I believe in taking the time to listen carefully, understand how symptoms are affecting everyday life and explain treatment options in a clear, straightforward way.
I have a particular interest in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and regularly help patients with reflux disease, hiatus hernias, achalasia and Barrett's oesophagus. I also perform gastroscopy procedures to investigate upper digestive symptoms and provide accurate diagnoses. In addition, I treat gallbladder conditions, including gallstones, and carry out gallbladder removal surgery, as well as surgery for a range of abdominal and groin hernias.
Weight loss surgery is another important area of my practice. I support patients considering treatments such as gastric sleeve surgery, including single-incision techniques where appropriate, gastric bypass surgery and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. I also help patients who have previously undergone bariatric surgery and are seeking advice about their long-term results or considering revisional procedures.
My approach is centred on providing personalised care. Every patient is different, and I work closely with each individual to understand their goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for them. I know that digestive health problems can have a significant impact on quality of life, and I am committed to helping patients find effective solutions that allow them to feel healthier, more comfortable and more confident.
Alongside my clinical practice, I remain actively involved in education, training and service development within my specialty. I am a member of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS), the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS), where I was honoured to serve as a faculty session chair in 2022, and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). I am also a lifetime faculty member of the Society of Gastrointestinal Intervention (SGI), a faculty member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR), and Director of Surgery for the Minnova Medical Foundation. These roles allow me to work closely with colleagues from across the UK and internationally, contributing to ongoing developments in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric care.
I offer free self-pay consultations for all new patients, including those considering weight loss surgery.
