I qualified in medicine at the Royal London Hospital in 1995 and completed my basic surgical training in London and South East England. My specialist interests focus on hip and knee replacement surgery, including complex revision procedures, and I also have a particular interest in joint replacement for younger patients.
I completed my specialist trauma and orthopaedic training in the Mersey region, spending the final two years of my training sub‑specialising in hip and knee surgery. This included a fellowship year at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I now perform around 200 joint replacements each year, including both primary and revision hip and knee surgery.
My revision work includes managing complex problems such as infection, recurrent joint dislocation, periprosthetic fractures, bone loss and cases requiring bone grafting or more advanced reconstructive techniques. I also carry out arthroscopic knee surgery, including meniscal procedures, where this is the most appropriate option.
My National Joint Registry data shows five‑year revision rates for both hip and knee surgery that are below the national average, which reflects my focus on careful patient selection, surgical planning and long‑term outcomes.
Alongside my clinical work, I also undertake medico‑legal work relating to personal injury and medical negligence.
Outside of medicine, I am married to a GP and have two young children. I am a keen golfer, enjoy skiing each year, and remain a lifelong follower of rugby, football and other sports.
