Mr Ashok Ramavath

I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, with over 20 years of experience in orthopaedic surgery. My specialist interests include hip and knee surgery, joint replacement, sports injuries and the management of complex orthopaedic conditions.

I believe that every patient is unique, and their treatment should be too. My approach is centred on providing personalised, evidence-based care, taking the time to understand each patient's symptoms, lifestyle and individual goals. My aim is to help patients reduce pain, restore mobility and return to the activities that are important to them.

I treat a wide range of conditions, including hip and knee arthritis, joint pain and sports-related injuries. Wherever appropriate, I consider non-surgical treatment options, including joint injections, rehabilitation and lifestyle advice. When surgery is required, I offer procedures ranging from hip and knee replacement to more complex reconstructive surgery.

I completed three years of postgraduate orthopaedic training in India before undertaking higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics through the Mersey Deanery. I subsequently completed specialist fellowship training at several leading orthopaedic centres, including Leeds, Sheffield, Wrightington Hospital and the Exeter Knee Reconstruction Unit. These fellowships provided extensive experience in high-volume hip and knee surgery, joint reconstruction and the management of both routine and complex orthopaedic conditions.

I have also worked across major trauma centres, gaining extensive experience in the management of acute and complex musculoskeletal injuries. This breadth of training continues to inform my clinical practice and my commitment to providing safe, high-quality and individualised care.

Alongside my clinical work, I am actively involved in medical education and surgical training, including contributing to national examinations and supporting the education and development of future surgeons.

Outside medicine, I enjoy running and spending time with my family.
