Specialises in

  • Grommets insertion
  • Sinus surgery
  • Tonsillectomy

I have been a consultant ENT Surgeon since 1989. I was one of the first surgeons in the UK to instigate and develop Endoscopic Sinus Surgery in the management of sinusitis. I have expertise in the management of nasal tumours, especially inverted papilloma - a benign but specialist tumour of the nose and sinuses. I have spent my professional career developing and improving the management of disorders of the nose and sinuses. I have performed many surgical procedures on the nose and sinuses for a full range of different conditions and pathologies.

I have a specialist interest in disorders of the sinuses that includes sinusitis of all types. This includes the medical management and surgery of sinusitis and nasal polyps by Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (often referred to as Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery or FESS).

I was also innovative in the extended use of endoscopic sinus surgery in the nose. Such procedures included endoscopic surgery of the nasal septum, endoscopic lacrimal sac surgery for watery eyes, orbital decompression of thyroid eye disease, endoscopic repair of CSF leaks from the anterior skull base.

My practice has attracted many referrals from consultant colleagues of patients with difficult and challenging sinus disorders.

The management of the blocked nose is a complaint that often seems simple, but can also be a challenge for which I offer specialist expertise. Nasal obstruction may also affect sleep and lead to sleep disordered breathing or obstructive sleep apnoea.

I also have a specialist interest in disorders of the sense of smell. In addition to my specialist field, I have maintained a strong interest in general ENT disorders as well.

I have taught extensively on Sinus surgery courses both nationally and internationally.

I have also organized several ENT conferences and have been lead and president for our major UK international conference: the British Academic Conference on Otolaryngology (BACO) 2023.

I'm an examiner for the MRCS and a member of the Court of Examiners at the Royal College of Surgeons of England as well as European Board examiner (EBEORL).

I've been past examiner for the specialty intercollegiate board FRCS (ORL) for the maximum time of 10 years; Examination Assessor for 3 years and Lead for written section (section 1) of FRCS examination for 9 years.
