Dr Richard Ellis

I have extensive experience in the assessment and management of conditions such as headaches, epilepsy, memory problems, movement disorders and nerve or muscle conditions, as well as neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. I am particularly experienced in treating movement disorders and regularly provide therapeutic botulinum toxin injections for conditions such as dystonia, spasticity, blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm, using both guided and non‑guided techniques where appropriate.

Alongside my work at Spire, my main NHS practice is based at The Walton Centre in Liverpool, where I am the Clinical Lead for the movement disorders service. I also work closely with other hospitals across the region, helping to ensure patients have access to specialist neurological assessment and care closer to home. I previously established services designed to improve access to expert neurology input, reflecting my commitment to timely and effective patient care.

I am passionate about making complex neurological conditions easier to understand and always aim to explain things in clear, straightforward terms. This helps patients feel informed, supported and involved in decisions about their care.

In addition to my clinical work, I am actively involved in education and training, supporting doctors at different stages of their careers and contributing to the future of neurological care.
