I am a 76-year-old widow, living on my own. I used to attend Keep Fit and the gym once a week but I had to stop as my knee was so painful. I could still drive but if I went shopping I could only walk for about 20-minutes before the pain got too bad. I also like gardening which also had to be curtailed and some daily chores were very painful.

I found Mr Banerjee to be a very pleasant and caring consultant and the nursing staff on the ward were excellent. Particularly Ann, the nurse in charge and Jordan and Karis the nurses who looked after me. Although busy they always had time for me - I’m a bit of a chatterbox. Even the cleaning lady had time for a chat. Both nurses gave me a hug the day I left, showing the personal touch.

I had a full knee replacement. Physio had me on my feet the next day, I have been receiving one to one physio with Angela and am now attending group physio with her, and others who have the same condition and I find it very reassuring.

8-weeks into my recovery I’ve been discharged and I am driving again. I am slowly beginning to do daily chores like shopping and cleaning but I’m taking it slowly. I no longer use crutches, and I’m gradually getting back to normal.

I couldn’t have expected a better experience – I feel like I was treated like a Queen!
