For several years I have had problems with my right knee, after exercise or work my knee would begin to ache, become still and painful to bend. After talking to my doctor, I had x-rays on my knee the results of which were wear and tear.

I had an MRI scan, unfortunately, my knee was completely worn away. There was no alternative but to have a replacement. During discussions with Mr Jain, he told me that he had begun to use the Mako procedure at Spire and that it reduced recovery time and was less invasive. I went onto the internet and checked it out and was very impressed with what I saw. Following this, I arranged to have the operation.

The whole experience at Spire was exceptional. As soon as I had settled in my room Mr Jain came to see me and within 45 minutes I was in the theatre. Had a chat with the anaesthetist and Mr Jain and then was put under. When I awoke Mr Jain said that the operation was a complete success. I was then taken for an x-ray, which confirmed the success. Then I was taken to my room. I was offered paracetamol, codeine and oramorph. But I found that the paracetamol was fine. Two days later, with the aid of crutches I was able to walk exceptionally well so it was decided that I should try walking up and down the stairs, which was also a success. The ward staff were excellent and the slightest request catered for day or night. Should I require any further procedures then the Spire would be top of my list.

I am now at week five since the operation, I have had two sessions of physio and also had the stitches removed, pain level still minimal. The only problem I have is still some swelling which is taking time to go down. I am walking pretty much as normal, playing football and walking around four to six miles a day with my dog, driving and playing golf.

The whole procedure went very well and my lifestyle is much improved.
