I perform vascular surgery which includes treatment of; varicose veins, thread veins, ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy for varicose veins, leg ulcers, peripheral vascular disease, intermittent claudication, carotid artery disease, aneurysms and endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR).
I am currently the Sampson Gamgee Professor of Vascular Surgery and Education lead Dean at the Medical School at the University of Birmingham and also Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at the Heart of England NHS Trust.
I qualified with Honours from Edinburgh Medical School in 1985. I undertook my postgraduate training in general and vascular surgery in Scotland and London. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was awarded my MD Thesis in 1992. In 1996, I was appointed Senior Lecturer and Consultant Surgeon at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. In February 2000, I took up the substantive Chair of Vascular Surgery at the University of Birmingham and was appointed Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust (Teaching).
I specialise in the non-surgical treatment of varicose, thread veins and arterial disease. Specifically, I have an active clinical and research interests in ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy for varicose veins, leg ulcers, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), intermittent claudication, critical limb ischaemia, carotid artery disease, and lymphoedema.
