Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Mark Herron at Spire include:
I specialise in all areas of Foot & Ankle management, operative and non-operative.
I have worked for 14 years as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and specialise solely in treating conditions affecting the foot & ankle. This has given me a significant breadth of experience in operative as well as non-operative management of all adult and adolescent conditions in the area. I have worked with professional sport throughout my career as well as with the less athletic and those suffering debilitating conditions and deformities of the foot & ankle.
My surgical practice includes all deformity correction, arthritic and degenerative conditions as well as the management of sports injuries & fractures. Examples of the type of operations I commonly carry out are Hallux Valgus (bunion) corrections, correction of any forefoot deformity, minimally invasive & arthroscopic surgery to the big toe, ankle arthroscopy and ankle ligament reconstruction, Flat foot & Cavus foot (High arch) deformity correction, arthroscopic ankle fusion, all varieties of Achilles and other tendon operations as well as all revision cases.
In addition to my clinical practice, I lecture widely on Orthopaedic topics both nationally & internationally and hold the position of Honorary senior lecturer for the University of Birmingham. I am regularly involved in the teaching of both Orthopaedic trainees and GPs as well as other healthcare professionals in foot and ankle. I am one of the founder members and managing partners of the HCA Wellington Hospital Foot & Ankle unit in central London .
I am the Editor in Chief for OrthOracle, an on-line atlas of Orthopaedic surgery, that has been developed in the UK and is used across the World by Surgeons and those in training. Its aim is to disseminate best surgical practice amongst the surgical profession thereby improving outcomes and reducing adverse surgical events.
