"Spire Little Aston provides a relaxed working atmosphere, friendly helpful staff coupled with excellent clinical facilities, making it a lovely place to work and see patients."
I have been a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist for nine years. Most of my day to day work is General Cardiology, so seeing and treating chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, dizzy episodes, blackouts and heart failure. I perform on average 100 angioplasties per year, 300 angiograms and implant 60-70 devices (of various types) per year.
I am an Interventional Cardiologist, so undertake Coronary Angiograms (to look at the blood vessels around your heart) and perform Coronary Angioplasty (fixing narrowings and blockages with balloons and stents). I also implant a variety of types of pacemakers, for slow heartbeats as well as devices to help with heart failure.
Born and bred in Bristol, I attended Bristol University for my BSc (Hons) degree, as well as my undergraduate medical training. I completed my house officer training in and around the South West before being awarded a prestigious British Heart Foundation Junior Fellowship to complete two years of research at the Bristol Heart Institute.
I moved to the West Midlands in 2006 (with initial reluctance I admit) to complete my specialist training in cardiology. I worked in and around Birmingham in centres such as University Hospital Coventry as well as New Cross, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Worcester. I was fortunate to be awarded an Interventional Fellowship at the Ottawa Heart Institute, Canada where I spent a year advancing my coronary angioplasty skills. I returned from Canada to commence my consultant post at Queen’s Hospital Burton, in October 2012.
I am the Deputy Cardiology Lead at University Derby and Burton NHS Trust. I am also the Clinical IT Lead.
