I am a consultant Urologist and Andrologist (Men’s health specialist relating to the penis and genitals) at Leeds NHS trust, based at St James Hospital and honorary senior lecturer at the university of Leeds. This is the only andrology department in Yorkshire where I run the regional service with two other consultant colleagues as well as training the next generation of andrologists through their andrology fellowship.

We provide tertiary services (and beyond) for penile cancer, peyronies (including complex grafting), high volume penile implants (I performed 98 last year alone making me one of the highest volume implanters in Europe) and working with care fertility to run the only NHS male fertility practice in Yorkshire offering surgical sperm retrieval and complex microscopic reconstruction.

I started my medical training in London studying at Kings College London gaining my medical degree (MBBS) as well as BSc (Hons) in Physiology. My houseman jobs took me to the Southwest where I started my general surgical training. My specialist Urology training took me to Yorkshire where I settled as a consultant Urologist in the largest NHS Trust in England, Leeds. I have gained further specialist andrology experience by completing fellowships in both Leeds and at the world-famous Institute of urology at UCL, London. Here I honed my subspecialty interests in male factor infertility, complex genital reconstruction and penile implants under Professor David Ralph. I have also undergone additional training in fertility management of spinal cord injury males at the University of Miami.

I regularly present at national and international meetings. I have been published extensively with peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on reconstructive andrology. I have already sat on the national andrology committee (BAUS) between 2019-21 helping to set and maintain national andrology standards.

Consultant Urologist Leeds NHS Trust

Honary senior Lecturer in Urology, University of Leeds

I am happily married to my wife Dr Jenna Hawthorn who works as a radiologist and we have just welcomed our first child. In my spare time, i'm an overly keen golfer (as is evident from my Twitter and Instagram!) and can often be seen out and about on my road bike.
