An experienced consultant knee surgeon at Spire Leeds Hospital, I am from a sporting background in endurance sports (running, cycling, triathlon) and have extensive experience in all knee surgery and in treating sports knee injuries. I have active research interests in stem cell cartilage techniques and cartilage repair.

I offer a wide range of arthroscopic and open procedures for treatment of the following knee conditions: knee instability, knee ligament reconstruction (ACL & PCL), complex and multi-ligament knee reconstruction, treatment of meniscal injury including repair, augmentation and transplant, cartilage restoration and regenerative chondral surgery, patella stabilisation surgery, treatment of young adult knee arthritis, knee re-alignment osteotomy, unicompartmental knee replacement and total knee replacement.

I graduated from the University of Leeds Medical School in 1998 with an honours Bachelor of Science degree and an honours degree in Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB Hons). I undertook basic and higher surgical training in Yorkshire and passed Fellowship (FRCS Tr & Orth) exams in 2008 and was added to the GMC Specialist Register in 2010.

Two prestigious national knee fellowships provided excellent post-accreditation training in all aspects of knee surgery (including complex ligament and knee trauma surgery). These were completed at major teaching hospitals. I was appointed as a Consultant trauma and knee surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in September 2014.

I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds and undertake academic teaching of undergraduate medical students and post-graduate orthopaedic trainees. I also serve as a faculty member on many national and regional orthopaedic courses and I have current involvement in the development of techniques for cartilage regeneration. My research work has been presented at international meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.

I was born in Broseley, Shropshire. I spent my childhood in South Wales, but now feel an adopted Yorkshireman having lived in the county since my university days. Outside of surgery, I have a passion for cycling and triathlon where I am strongly competitive at veteran level.

In the winter, I like to indulge in my main sport of skiing. I have two children and enjoy spending my time showing them the wonders of the great Yorkshire countryside, encouraging them to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
