Virtual consultations:
I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee surgery. I studied medicine at the University of Leeds, obtaining an intercalated Bachelor of Science degree (with honours) in 1996 and then graduating with a further honours degree in medicine and surgery in 1998.
I then gained a place on the Yorkshire School of Surgery basic surgical training programme and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (London) in 2002.
As a specialist registrar, my higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery was also completed within the Yorkshire region.
I passed my Fellowship exams in 2008 and was added to the GMC Specialist Register in 2010. I then undertook post-accreditation fellowship training in all aspects of knee surgery by completing two prestigious fellowship periods. The first was a 6 month fellowship in Harrogate, where I worked with Mr Nick London. The second was a prestigious national fellowship working alongside the late Mr Stuart Calder and Mr Ram Venkatesh for 16 months at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.
I was appointed as a consultant trauma and knee surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust in September 2014. I am an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Leeds and undertake academic teaching of undergraduate medical students and postgraduate orthopaedic trainees.
I am a faculty member on many national and regional orthopaedic courses and I'm also involved in the development of techniques for cartilage regeneration. My research work has been presented at international meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.
I undertake a wide range of arthroscopic and open procedures for treatment of the following knee conditions: knee instability, knee ligament reconstruction (ACL), complex multi-ligament knee reconstruction, treatment of meniscal injury including repair, augmentation and meniscal transplant, cartilage restoration and regeneration surgery, patella stabilisation surgery, treatment of young adult knee osteoarthritis, knee re-alignment osteotomy, unicompartmental knee replacement, patellofemoral knee replacement and total knee replacement.

I was born in Broseley, Shropshire. I spent my childhood in South Wales, but now feel an adopted Yorkshireman having lived in the county since my university days. Outside of surgery, I have a passion for cycling and triathlon where I am strongly competitive at veteran level.
In the winter, I like to indulge in my main sport of skiing. I have two children and enjoy spending my time showing them the wonders of the great Yorkshire countryside, encouraging them to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle.
