Specialises in
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Leeds Hospital specialising in Upper Limb Surgery. My special interests include shoulder replacement surgery, arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, injuries including rotator cuff repairs, surgery for shoulder instability and frozen shoulder. I also have an interest in treating elbow injuries with both arthroscopic and open techniques including elbow replacements.
I specialise in all aspects of upper limb treatment including non-operative management and surgery, both arthroscopic and open including: shoulder and elbow sports injuries, rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilisation surgery both arthroscopic and open, SLAP repair surgery, frozen shoulder surgery, shoulder replacement, elbow replacement, arthroscopic and open ACJ surgery, surgical treatments for elbow arthritis, tennis and golfers elbow and cubital and carpal tunnel release.
I believe in putting the patient at the centre of the consultation and taking the time to listen and examine my patients, to help each individual understand the nature of their problem and involve them in the tailoring of an individual treatment plan for their unique situation.
I currently perform approximately 400 arthroscopic shoulder surgical procedures per year, 50-65 shoulder replacements per year and in my NHS practice, a full complement of general and upper limb trauma operations including clavicle and ACJ stabilisation surgery, proximal humerus fixation, humeral shaft fixation and distal humerus fixation.
I was appointed as a Consultant at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust in 2014 having honed my skills in the Sheffield Shoulder and Elbow Unit before going onto fellowship training in the Royal Derby Upper Limb Unit and the internationally-renowned Pulvertaft Hand Unit. I also undertook further specialist training with the world-renowned Professor Gerber at the Balgrist Klinik in Zurich, Switzerland. Having competed to a high level in swimming under 18, I have a unique insight into treating elite sports people and their requirements including non-operative and surgical intervention and their rehabilitation.
I am the Clinical Director for Trauma and Orthopaedics at Airedale General Hospital.
I am also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leeds.
