Specialises in
I am a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon, and an expert in minimally invasive surgery for weight-loss, heartburn, gallstones and hernias. I pioneered the introduction of new robotic surgery techniques in Leeds, and am able to offer patients either traditional "keyhole surgery" or a robotic operation. I am often referred patients from across Yorkshire and beyond for a second opinion on the treatment of large hiatus hernias and acid-reflux.
I provide comprehensive surgical care for upper gastrointestinal conditions. This includes the investigation and treatment of gallstones, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), swallowing and motility disorders (such as achalasia), hernias, and oesophageal and gastric cancers.
I specialise in minimally invasive and robotic surgery for the treatment of gallstones and hernias. I have a specialist interest in the treatment of heartburn and hiatus hernias, and offer both fundoplication (Nissen) surgery and the LINX procedure.
I am a core member of the Leeds weight-loss multi-disciplinary team and offer a full range of surgical and non-surgical treatments to help patients lose weight, such as the sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and mini gastric bypass procedures.
I offer upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (gastroscopy).
I am a strong patient advocate and believe in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. I will take the time to discuss different treatment options, and help you to make the choices best suited to your individual needs. Patients should be at the centre of decision making about their health, and I look to change how we deliver healthcare to respond to patients' needs.
I have a strong research interest, and am actively involved in delivering several large UK trials. These include studies of new surgical techniques and treatments, and novel methods to monitor patients after surgery to improve quality of life. I have published over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and have presented my work nationally and internationally.
