Professional profile

I have been a Consultant Surgeon since 2002. My specialist interest is colorectal surgery with specialist expertise in laparoscopic colon and rectum operations. I participate in the emergency on-call rota at the Lister hospital as part of the General Surgery team. I am a faculty member at the Iceni centre in Colchester where I teach laparoscopic colorectal surgery to senior surgical trainees. I have a fellow attached to my surgical team specifically to be trained in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

I am a specialist in the surgical treatment all diseases of the colon and rectum: cancer, diverticular, Crohn`s, ulcerative colitis. I am an expert in laparoscopic surgery for bowel problems. I manage ano-rectal problems such as haemorrhoids, fissure, fistula, pilonidal sinus. I treat gallstones and hernias as part of my General Surgery workload. I perform lower gastro-intestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, as part of the investigation of bowel symptoms.
