Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Julius Cairn at Spire include:
General medicine: Lung disease, Respiratory pathology, Lung cancer, Respiratory Medicine: Lung Cancer, Lung disease, Respiratory pathology, Asthma, Chest Medicine,
I provide an outpatient practice which covers all aspects of respiratory medicine at Spire Harpenden Hospital, where I have access to excellent diagnostic facilities such as state of the art CT thorax imaging and detailed lung function studies. I also have access to interventional thoracic radiology services, thoracic surgery and specialised respiratory physiology services (such as sleep studies).
I am a respiratory physician with special interests in interstitial lung disease, respiratory infection such as bronchiectasis, lung cancer, asthma, COPD and obstructive sleep apnoea. I can also provide expertise in the investigation and management of cough and breathlessness.
I completed my undergraduate training at The London Hospital Medical College and postgraduate training in North West Thames, including at the Royal Brompton, Harefield and Charing Cross Hospitals. I completed sub-specialty training in lung cancer, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, sleep medicine, respiratory infection and lung transplantation.
My research at Harefield and the Royal Brompton Hospitals focused on the diagnosis of Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome, which is a form of chronic rejection following lung transplantation and this culminated in the postgraduate degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of London.
My current clinical governance and teaching interests include interstitial lung disease, the management of pneumonia and oxygen prescribing and he is a member of the West Herts Hospitals’ antibiotics and medical gas committees. My NHS practice is based at Harefield and the West Hertfordshire group of hospitals, (St Albans City Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Watford General Hospital), where I run general respiratory medical clinics, subspecialist clinics in interstitial lung disease and fibreoptic bronchoscopy lists.
