Professional profile

Dr Emmanuel is the clinical lead for Pain management at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, predominantly based at the Lister Hospital Stevenage. Having a background in General medicine (MRCP), Anaesthetic training(FRCA), and Fellowships in Pain medicine in the Uk and Australia, has given him a broad scope to diagnose and treat complex pain conditions.

Dr Emmanuel is constantly striving to improve the treatments of those with chronic pain conditions. He developed the pathways for nerve related pain conditions in the Hertfordshire region, and is currently advising the region on the proper treatment pathways for low back pain, sciatica, whiplash and neck pain for Hertfordshire.

His particular interest is advanced and minimally invasive treatments for chronic neck, shoulder and headache conditions. He introduced cervical radiofrequency denervation to his hospital, which is the gold standard treatment for neck pain caused by arthritis and trauma. Dr Emmanuel performs around 100 radiofrequency procedures a year on the NHS
